Shadow Shot Sunday - Jersey Shore Redux

The strong norther sun of Summer allows for interesting shadows in many places. For me, the New Jersey shore family vacations of decades past I will use for Shadow Shot Sunday 2. From the beach at Brigantine (1961), bicycle riding on the famous pre-casino Boardwalk (1965 and 1969), the shadows arrive on sand, surf...really any surface. Since life intrudes, Summers have not been the same as I remember them all those years ago...

Shadow Shot Sunday - Isolated

Our daughter went to Silver Sands State Park the other day to relax amid the sparse weekday beach-going visitors. We are not on some enchanted oceanic isle, but at low tide along long island Sound. This lone tree emits its shapely shadow under a lovely sky - and we feel refreshed in its quiet solitude. Thus, I offer this tranquility  for Shadow Shot Sunday 2 - thanks MMT!

Shadow Shot Sunday - Proportional (Not)

Shadows appear all about, no matter the time or place, and Shadow Shot Sunday 2 is the place to reveal any oddities. Recently when riding the local paratransit van we found ourselves alongside a shiny tanker truck and saw a shadow underneath the behemoth. What's even more fun is the out-of-proportion reflection in the oval conveyance next to us. It almost feels like we are traversing a fun house hall of mirrors...always keep your camera at the ready!

Shadow Shot Sunday - Soft Shadowy Steeples

The sultry summer gives us longer days and warmer evening shadows. So for Shadow Shot Sunday 2, hosted by MMT, we are aa the small town green of Derby CT. And like most old traditional New England greens, they were surrounded by churches. Immanuel St. James Episcopal Church from 1843 is clad in stone and the imposing 1894 brick Derby United Methodist Church looks softer in the light and shadow of the impending sunset. The shadows are divinely inspired it would seem...

Shadow Shot Sunday - Peaceful

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 brings the viewer to the solitude and quiet countenance of the water almost overwhelms - but is actually gentle on the senses. The reservoir at Witek Park in neighboring Derby is only 5 or so minutes away from the suburban neighborhood tracts, but feeling almost a world away...

Shadow Shot Sunday - Post Industrial

For today's Shadow Shot Sunday 2, I am crossing the Housatonic River to Shelton CT. This promenade along the river was one a sponge rubber plant destroyed by fire in 1975. Now, a riverside park exists - its once industrial heritage showcased by the iron train trestle. Reclaimed and repurposed, it is a nice place to rewind...

Shadow Shot Sunday - The Majestic Huckleberry

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 takes us back a few days - or centuries if one prefers. Taken at recent Memorial Day Parades in Ansonia and Derby (CT). It is a recreation of Col. David Humphreys, from Derby (local history can be amazing :) an aide de camp of General Washington from 1780 to 1783 in the American Revolution - and his horse Huckleberry. Yes, it is a modern portrayal of the officer by David Loda and his steed also named Huckleberry. I've see this gentle giant up close and he is a beauty indeed. His shadows are equally impressive!

Shadow Shot Sunday - Fluttering Memorial

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 takes us to a shady assemblage of flags in Seymour Connecticut.

Members of the Seymour Congregational Church this week continued a Memorial Day tradition of placing flags on the front lawn of the church.

The Seymour Memorial Day Parade ends in front of the church.

Remember the fallen this weekend…

Shadow Shot Sunday - A Gaggle

I think a multitude of geese is a gaggle - as are the shadows of our friends from Canada. So for Shadow Shot Sunday 2 we see a few geese foraging at Osbornedale State Park in neighboring Derby CT. Some see these as pests, but not here - I see them as majestic avians gracing the land. And their equally  magnificent shadows too!

Shadow Shot Sunday - Concrete Carpet

It has been a rainy and cool Spring so far in Southern New England. Thus, any sun we get we gladly bask in its appearance. So for Shadow Shot Sunday, this week's sparse sun exposed for us a shadowy 'carpet' on the patio as the iron table leaves a wonderful pattern. Akin to an area rug, this pattern satisfies!

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 - The Always Lovely Patti

In the blogosphere, I have often referred to the Always Lovely Patti. This of course being my very lovely spouse for nearly 33 years. So for those who have yet to meet her, I have borrowed her shadowy 'selfie' for Shadow Shot Sunday 2. She is equally as lovely in person :)

The Weekend Roundup - 'O'

Tom's always fun meme, The Weekend Roundup, is back with the fourth vowel featured. So the archives were searched and examples of that letter (a bit peripherally perhaps :) have been found...

Ohio begins with 'O' and the city of Steubenville is found therein. I found this folded up correspondence in a box of photos and had to scan it. Apparently this was the ticket to avoid the ticket - carry this in your wallet, present it to the officer and you are on your way. Grandpa, at age 23 showed that it paid to be friends with the Chief...(who looks like he typed it himself given the typing quality :)

More Ohio includes this 1999 entry to the city of Steubenville.

'O' stands for Onion. These beauties were found at a farmers market in neighboring Seymour, CT a few summers ago. I await locally grown produce!

Here is Open Water. This summer view was captured by the always lovely Patti on the Housatonic River in August 2017. Nice neighborhood!

A Favorite. Patti caught this Cardinal strutting in our back yard. Have a great week all!

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 - Shadowy Green

As we await new Spring foliage, the crisp sun and sky fall upon the old town green in Derby, CT. Shadows fall upon the unique architecture of the Sterling Opera House (left,1889) and Second Congregational Church (1845). s the sun's angle is still offset to the South, equally crisp shadows emerge. S I offer these for Shadow Shot Sunday 2. The church did have a pointy steeple until Hurricane Gloria in 1985 removed that - I like the flat roof repair, it adds a unique style to the classic 19th century Puritanchurch.  Have a great week!

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 - Cold Backyard

Winter is not my favorite season in feel at least - but as shadowy artistry, a northern winter certainly is! Looking over our back yard after a snowy day before, it makes for a fine subject for Shadow Shot Sunday 2. It's warmer tho in the Sonoran desert, which would at least make me feel better...

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 - Sparse Seasonal Shadows

I'm not a fan of Winter - I don't move much in the wheelchair, so feel chilly much of the time. Yet I cannot deny the beauty of the season. Here is a look at Pickett's Pond at Osbornedale State Park in neighboring Derby, CT. Yes, the leaves are gone and the skies look cold. However within the sparse  landscape there are well-defined shadows add a hint of artistry to the scene, so perfect for today's  Shadow Shot Sunday 2. Happy Winter to all - and Spring  will soon arrive. I hope that is :)

Shadow Shot Sunday 2 - Shadowy Chèvre

Whhat is more cute than babies - more specifically, baby goats? Two month old siblings Bonnie and Clyde were showcased in downtown Seymour Connecticut recently. These adorable goats were bathed in shadow on a glorious day, so are perfect subjects for Shadow Shot Sunday 2. The cuteness never ends with these fur babies :)
